Toyo Tires and the Spec Miata Area 4 Regional Tournament (S.M.A.R.T.), a driver-organized Spec Miata points series counting races from SCCA and NASA events in OH, IN, MI, and Western PA, are proud to announce an agreement in principle to make Toyo Tires the BANNER sponsor of the S.M.A.R.T. series.
This announcement obsoletes and replaces the October 24 announcement of Toyo as a S.M.A.R.T. Contingency Sponsor.
- Toyo has agreed to provide FIVE SETS of Toyo Proxes RA-1 tires for entrants of the S.M.A.R.T. series points race. These tires are to be distributed as decided by the S.M.A.R.T. Series Steering Committee, but are tentatively intended to be given out in the following manner:
- ONE SET to the series winner.
- TWO TIRES to the series runner-up.
- TWO TIRES to the series 3rd place.
- TWO SETS to be raffled off among the remaining S.M.A.R.T. entrants that attended greater than 6 S.M.A.R.T. events. The more events you run, the more chances you have to win.
- ONE SET to the driver entering the most S.M.A.R.T. events.
- Toyo is supporting S.M.A.R.T. with CASH such that EVERY SM on TOYO Tires will be automatically signed up for the SMART series. This means S.M.A.R.T. is a ZERO-COST series for ANY SM competitor running Toyo tires at any S.M.A.R.T. event.
- Hats, shirts, jackets, to be given as door prizes, "hard luck" awards, and as gifts to volunteer corner workers, flaggers, etc. on behalf of Toyo and the S.M.A.R.T. drivers.

S.M.A.R.T. Series Announces Toyo as 2004 Spec Tire

The Spec Miata Area 4 Regional Tournament (S.M.A.R.T.), a driver-organized Spec Miata points series counting races from SCCA and NASA events held at tracks in OH, IN, MI, and Western PA, has determined the spec tire for 2004 S.M.A.R.T. Entrants will be the Toyo Proxes RA-1 in the 205-50/15 size. This decision was made using the following factors:
- The outcome of the CENDiv tire ruling, which allows the Toyo RA-1 as one of the tires to be eligible for SCCA CENDiv events, as well as the CENDiv Regional Champ Series. This means Toyo-equipped cars may run for CENDiv points and SMART points without conflict.
- A poll of potential SMART entrants asking if they preferred to adopt the CENDiv 4-tire spec, or spec one tire.
- The decision of NASA to spec the Toyo RA-1 for all events. Thus, SMART Entrants may run both SCCA and NASA races with the same car.
- The expectation that SCCA NEDiv will allow, or likely spec, the Toyo RA-1.
The sum of these 4 factors means that the S.M.A.R.T. spec tire of Toyo will allow S.M.A.R.T. drivers to compete in SCCA CENDiv and the CENDIv Regional Champ Series, SCCA NEDiv, and NASA, all with the same tires.

Toyo Tires and the Spec Miata Area 4 Racing Tournament (S.M.A.R.T.) are proud to announce an agreement in principle to make Toyo Tires a contingency sponsor of the S.M.A.R.T. series.
Toyo has agreed to provide THREE SETS of Toyo Proxes RA-1 tires for entrants of the S.M.A.R.T. series points race. These tires are to be distributed as decided by the S.M.A.R.T. Series Steering Committee, but are tentatively intended to be given out in the following manner:
- 3 sets of Toyos to be distributed at year's end in the following manner, or similar, to be ultimately decided by the S.M.A.R.T. Steering Committee: One set of 4 tires for the series winner. Two tires for 2nd place in the series. Two tires for 3rd place in the series. One set of 4 tires to a random entrant that attended greater than "X" S.M.A.R.T. events.
- Cash rebates for Toyo tires of $50 per race, up to 24 races, to be distributed equally among Top 3 finishers and the rest of the field. For example, $25 will be reserved for a drawing of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, and the second $25 will be reserved for a drawing among 4th and lower.
- Hats, shirts, jackets, to be given as door prizes, "hard luck" awards, and as gifts to volunteer corner workers, flaggers, etc. on behalf of Toyo and the S.M.A.R.T. drivers.
S.M.A.R.T. entrants will be required to run Toyo fender stickers to be eligible, HOWEVER, Toyo has agreed that those with a legitimate conflict of interest, such as being employed by a tire dealer, distributor, or manufacturer, may be waived from this requirement by the S.M.A.R.T. Steering Committee.

Carbotech and the Spec Miata Area 4 Racing Tournament (S.M.A.R.T.) are proud to announce an agreement in principle to make Carbotech the offical brake pad sponsor of the S.M.A.R.T. series.
Carbotech has agreed to provide "X" sets of Carbotech pads and "N" gift certificates for EACH S.M.A.R.T. series points race, proportional to the number of series races and series entrants that are part of the S.M.A.R.T. series. The more races we have on the schedule, and the more racers we have entered in the series, the more pads and vouchers for $$$ off of Carbotech pads we will be eligible to receive from Carbotech.
Carbotech pads and vouchers will be distributed such that ALL entrants in the S.M.A.R.T. series will have a chance at winning the goods. For example, one set of Carbotechs will be given to ONE of the podium finishers, to be determined by a random drawing of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers. A second set of pads will be reserved for a random drawing among those finishing 4th or lower. A 3rd set of pads will be reserved for the Carbotech Sportsman Of The Weekend, as voted by his/her competitors. We even discussed a Hard Luck award for the guy that crashes or blows up.
S.M.A.R.T. entrants will be required to run Carbotech stickers on each side of the car to be considered eligible for points, merchandise, and gift certificates.
